Melbourne Bach Choir presents
Sir Edward Elgar

The Kingdom

Sunday 18 September at 2:30pm | Melbourne Town Hall

Elgar’s great oratorio depicts the foundation of the Christian Church: the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and the events of the following days, as experienced by St Peter, St John, the blessed Virgin and Mary Magdalene. Its stirring choruses, moments of radiant serenity and rapturous climax have convinced many that this is Elgar’s greatest choral work.

Scored for large orchestra, large choir and soloists, this moving work was first performed in 1906, and this will be its first Melbourne performance since the 1940s.
